Accident Summary:
The aircraft was on a test flight checking hydraulics. Upon crosschecking instruments, it was
noted that the engine and rotor tach needles were dropping. The aircraft commander increased
pitch to verify a tach failure and noted a drop in rotor RPM. He then entered an autorotation
and landed hard causing incident damage to the aircraft. The primary cause was determined to
be engine failure
