In 1971, during a MACV mission in Cheo Reo, Hans J. Underwood documented this moment with Hank, an image now held as part of the enduring testament he preserved through his lens.
More details: Hank is buried in a cemetary at the intersection of Fox Cemetery Rd. and Hwy 411 in Sevier County, TN, a few miles southwest of Newport (Cocke County), TN.
The following passage was taken from the 1971 History page:
years ago today, on the 27th of November 1971 at 1845 hours, the last Demon aircraft to fly a scheduled mission in Vietnam touched down at Hell's Half Acre. Aircraft 177 with Pilot WO1 Hank Pietrzak, Pilot 1LT Barton, Crewchief SP5 Ike Pena and Gunner SP5 Jeff Lemon had flown a mission to Pleiku and back. At 1848 the blades ceased to turn, by 1915 the ship was post-flighted and pushed into the revetment for the final time.
